13 August 2001 The 13th Warrior "I am not a warrior."
I only saw this movie when it was being shown over Star Movies. Actually, I had noted it in my channel guide and wanted to see what it was about since the description was pretty interesting. But I didn't get to see this movie right away. When my dakilang extra Mayette told me I should try to see it sometime since it was pretty good, I finally convinced myself to really watch it. I found it pretty entertaining. The story was engrossing. First you are intrigued as to why the title, then you want to know why the warriors were called to help save a village and finally what the "evil" was all about and the resolution of the plot. The 13th Warrior isn't an in-your-face action movie. There wasn't too much show of brawn and machismo and violence -- no, I take back the latter. Of course there is violence considering the warriors are Vikings! But it wasn't that violent. What does come to mind when watching this movie are all those early barbarian films, like Conan the Barbarian which I did see as a child and is one of my well-liked movies. They're action/fantasy/mystical movies and in the end are just plain entertaining. ... Knowing me and my multiple personalities, in the end there is usually a hidden motive as to why I start liking something so much. Like I said previously, initially I wanted to see this movie out of curiosity (and a bit because Antonio Banderas is cute in his own way), but in the middle of it all I find out the Vikings have bigger stage presence and are definitely way more attractive than Banderas! ; ) If ya don't believe me, you better turn to me Erotomania page to find out. |
